Riding the Euro Rails
One of the quickest and most scenic ways to travel through-out Europe is via train. Europe has a vast interconnecting system that allows travelers not only to travel in relative comfort but also to admire magnificent vistas as the countryside rolls past their windows. There are a variety of trains to suit everyone throughout each European country. Three of the most popular types of trains are high speed, over-night, and scenic.
The Eurostar train is one of the most frequently booked high speed trains in service. This train regularly departs London and travels via “the Chunnel” directly to either Paris or Brussels. Upon arrival, the traveler can connect to a variety of different destinations. This train regularly reaches speeds of up to 186 miles per hour making that Paris or Brussels reachable in just about two hours.
When it comes to night trains there are several from which to chose. One of the most popular in this category is the Elipsos. Why spend a night in a hotel when you can do so while also having a rail adventure! Sleeping compartments in this train range from single occupancy to the deluxe sleeper which has its own bathroom. The Elipsos travels from Spain to Italy, France and Switzerland ; placing you within easy reach of some of the most famous cities in Europe including Paris, Madrid, Milan, Barcelona, Geneva and Zurich.
For scenic trains, Switzerland’s Glacier Express is unparallelled! This 7½ hour journey begins either in St. Moritz, Chur or Davos (summer only) and takes you to Zermatt (or vice versa). Along the way, venture across steep mountain passes and impressive viaducts. The Glacier Express travels through 91 tunnels and crosses 291 bridges while you experience the alpine wonders of Switzerland. This unique train is famous for its panoramic views of snow-capped mountains, peaceful alpine meadows, magical castles, and charming Swiss villages.
